IP Federation reaction to the UK–South Korea Free Trade Agreement

17 December 2025

The IP Federation welcomes the announcement from the Department for Business and Trade confirming that negotiations have concluded for the  UK–South Korea Free Trade Agreement, which locks in the high intellectual property (IP) standards of two highly innovative economies. The agreement provides greater certainty for IP-intensive businesses and reflects a shared commitment to innovation, digital trade and the effective protection and enforcement of intellectual property.

During the course of the negotiations, the IP Federation was pleased to meet with South Korean stakeholders to discuss IP matters of mutual interest, reinforcing the strong foundations of the UK–South Korea relationship.

As we approach the end of the year, this agreement also caps a significant period of progress in UK trade policy, alongside the India CETA and the first anniversary of the UK’s accession to the CPTPP – an agreement that continues to attract important new members as we look ahead to 2026.
